Coffee Beans
The machine sets the ceiling on your coffee; the beans decide whether you reach it. A commercial blend has a harder job than a speciality single origin sold for home brewing, because it has to taste balanced as an espresso, survive being cut with six ounces of steamed milk, and repeat batch after batch across a whole year.
That is why the blends here are built on chocolate, nut and body rather than brightness. Ciao Italian is the dark-roasted, traditional option — Costa Rica, Brazil and Sumatra, thick crema, enough backbone to punch through a large latte. Ciao Barista is medium-dark and more rounded, drawing on Central America, Ethiopia and Brazil for sweetness and a little aromatic lift, which suits a site running one bean all day. There is a Fairtrade organic option where sourcing matters to your customers, and a decaf that will not embarrass the caffeinated blend beside it.
Roast level matters as much as origin. Too light and the drink turns sharp under a bean to cup machine’s fixed brewing programme; too dark and everything tastes of ash whatever you do with the grind. Cases of ten 500g bags exist for a reason: open little and often, keep the rest sealed and away from heat, and fill the hopper with what a day’s trade needs rather than topping it up on Monday for the week.
For the detail behind those choices, read how to choose beans for a bean to cup machine, then work bean cost into your cost per cup. If you are still choosing a machine, start with the bean to cup range.
