Full two-group output in 49cm of counter, with 20cm more for a grinder. Volumetric dosing and a strong steam wand cover up to around 200 coffees a day where width, not volume, is the limiting factor.

Counter space is the constraint that decides most equipment purchases, and the Expobar Elegance 2 Group Compact answers it directly. At 49cm wide it takes up little more room than many single-group machines, yet handles the same daily volume as its full-size sibling, around 200 coffees a day.

Small footprint, full capability

Two group heads mean two drinks at once, so a pair of staff can work the bar during a lunchtime surge instead of queueing behind one spout. Built-in volumetric control doses each shot to a programmed volume, taking guesswork out of the equation when several people share the machine across a week. A strong steam wand carries enough pressure to texture milk properly for flat whites and cappuccinos, and the boiler holds temperature and pressure steady between extractions. Allow roughly another 20cm alongside for a commercial grinder when you plan the counter run. Together that is a complete espresso station in well under a metre of worktop, which is often the difference between a coffee offer being viable and being shelved.

Key features

  • Compact 49cm-wide body designed for restricted counters
  • Two group heads for simultaneous espresso extraction
  • Programmable volumetric dosing for repeatable results
  • High-pressure steam wand for properly textured milk
  • Stainless steel construction built for commercial duty
  • Allow around 20cm extra width for a matched grinder

Planning the counter run

Width is only the first measurement. Behind the 49cm body you still need a water feed and a waste route, so the position has to work for the plumbing as much as for the customer view, and the electrical supply should be confirmed for the model before anything is fixed in place. In front of it you need room to work: somewhere to rest a portafilter, a knock-out drawer within reach and a landing spot for filled cups. It is worth drawing the run out on paper with the grinder in place, because the 20cm allowance is easy to forget until the day the grinder arrives.

Who gets the most from a compact two-group

Small cafés, sandwich bars, kiosks, office receptions and pub servery counters are the natural home, anywhere the coffee offer matters but the footprint is fixed. It also suits sites where the counter has to do several jobs: a farm shop till that becomes a coffee bar at eleven, or a deli where the machine shares space with a slicer and a scale. What you are buying is the ability to serve two drinks at once from a space that would normally force you into a single group, and that shows up on a Saturday queue rather than on a Tuesday morning.

Water, cleaning and keeping it right

A compact boiler is no less vulnerable to scale than a large one, and in much of the UK untreated mains water will do slow, expensive damage to any commercial machine. Filtration specified to your local hardness is the cheapest protection you will ever buy for it, and the reasons filtration matters more than descaling are worth understanding before you order. Day to day, clean the group heads and portafilters at close, backflush with a proper detergent, purge the wand after each jug, and keep the drip tray and waste route clear. Regular professional servicing keeps extraction consistent as gaskets age.

Training a small team

Volumetric dosing is what makes this machine forgiving on a site where the person making the coffee is also on the till. The shot volume is programmed once and then repeated, so the variable left to your staff is grinder setting, dose and milk. Teach those three well to two or three people, write the grinder adjustment routine down somewhere visible, and standards will survive holidays and turnover. It is the smallest amount of training that produces a genuinely commercial cup, and the same routine transfers to any machine in our commercial espresso line-up if you move up later.

When to look elsewhere

If your counter can spare the width, the full-size two-group gives you a bigger boiler reserve and more comfortable working room. If milk technique is never going to be taught on site, an automatic machine will serve you better than any traditional one. And if a single operator will only ever make one drink at a time, a one-group machine with an integrated grinder saves you more space again. Talk it through with us if the layout is awkward, since a quick conversation about your counter usually settles it faster than a spec sheet.

Where it fits best

  • Kiosks, sandwich bars and small cafés with fixed counter width
  • Office receptions and staff canteens with a lunchtime peak
  • Pub and hotel serveries adding coffee to an existing bar
  • Farm shops and delis where the counter does more than one job
