Sites that trade through a wet January and a heatwave in July rarely get away with a single drinks machine. The Complete Combi Serving Station VX3 Duo answers that by building a Ciao VX3 Duo bean-to-cup machine and a twin-bowl slush machine into one finished serving counter, so hot espresso-based drinks and frozen flavoured slush are poured from the same footprint by the customers themselves.

Installation is mostly a positioning job

Because everything is housed in one cabinet, installation is a matter of positioning the station, connecting to the mains and stocking the canisters. The cabinetry is part of the purchase rather than something you have to commission separately, which makes this the most self-contained option in our commercial bean to cup range. Position it in the customer flow rather than tucked behind a stand, leave access for restocking and cleaning, and think about where empties and lids will be dropped, since a station that looks untidy stops selling. Delivery and installation covers what we need in place before the unit arrives.

Hot and cold from one footprint

The VX3 Duo grinds fresh beans for every cup, drawing on canisters of dried milk and drinking chocolate to build lattes, cappuccinos, mochas and hot chocolate at a single button press. Beside it, two independent slush bowls hold separate flavours, each running its own refrigeration cycle, churning continuously. The morning coffee rush and the afternoon cold-drink queue are therefore covered by one unit with no changeover, no barista and no second site visit to set up.

What the cabinet carries

The counter itself holds storage for cups, lids, sugar and stirrers, an integrated waste bin and drip management to keep the serving area presentable. An automatic rinse and cleaning programme keeps the brew path hygienic. Both machines in the station are covered by a two-year warranty.

The trading pattern it wants

This is a station for passing trade rather than a seated café: customers serve themselves, pay at a till that is already there, and leave. The pattern that suits it is a long trading day with two different peaks, hot drinks in the morning and cold in the afternoon, rather than one heavy rush. Because both machines share a counter, neither has to carry the whole year on its own, which is the argument for a combi over two separate units. Petrol forecourts and roadside stops trading a long day all year round, holiday parks and campsites with a summer peak and a quiet winter, garden centres and visitor attractions with family footfall, leisure centres wanting hot and cold from one supervised point: these are the sites where floor space is limited and staffing is stretched.

Why the milk comes from a canister

The powdered milk and chocolate canisters are what make an unattended station practical. There is no fridge to run, no milk line to purge and nothing to throw away at close, so the counter can trade from opening to closing without anyone monitoring a use-by date. The trade-off is honest: a powdered latte is not a hand-textured one, and a site whose customers judge coffee against a high street café may want a fresh milk machine instead. For forecourts, holiday parks and leisure venues, the reliability and the absence of milk waste usually win.

The daily routine, and the one decision that matters

Daily upkeep amounts to refilling ingredients, emptying waste and running the cleaning cycle, and the slush bowls lift out for washing, so a supervisor can keep the whole station in service without specialist training. Beyond that the routine is stock, wipe, empty and check the bowls are churning. The decision worth taking seriously is the bean, because the brewing programme is fixed and nobody is standing there to adjust it; our guide to choosing beans for a bean to cup machine explains what to look for in a roast that has to work through powdered milk.

When two separate machines make more sense

If your hot and cold peaks land at the same moment, two queues at one counter will cost you sales and separate units placed apart will serve more people. If coffee is the main event and slush is an afterthought, a standalone bean-to-cup machine and a small slush unit bought later is the cheaper route. And if you already have a counter built, a countertop pairing avoids paying for cabinetry you do not need.
