Jura Giga X3 Generation 2

£4,750.00

The updated Jura Giga X3 Generation 2 runs from its own water tank or plumbs into the mains, so siting is your choice rather than the plumber’s. Around 200 cups a day, two-year warranty included.

Choosing between a tank-fed and a plumbed machine usually forces a compromise between where coffee is wanted and where water happens to be. The updated Jura Giga X3 Generation 2 sidesteps that by supporting both, which makes it unusually easy to place in offices, hotels, showrooms, reception areas and hospitality venues with awkward layouts. Among the Jura bean to cup machines we stock it is the model to look at first when the position is decided by the room rather than the plumbing.

Rated for around 200 cups a day

  • Approximately 200 cups per day, a commercial specification rather than a scaled-up domestic one
  • Fresh grinding for every cup on Jura’s current Generation 2 platform, with no pre-ground compromise

Brewing conditions are held steady so quality does not drift as the machine warms through a long shift, and automated rinse and cleaning programmes take a good deal of the daily labour out of it. Drink selection stays simple enough that visitors and staff can help themselves without instruction, which is exactly what an unattended coffee point needs. Milk specialities and black coffees come off the same menu, so one machine covers the whole building rather than dividing it.

Where the dual option earns its money

The practical value shows up in refurbishments and leased premises, where running a new water feed is expensive or simply not permitted. Start on the tank, move to plumbed later if the building allows, and the same machine carries on serving. It also protects a decision you may not be able to make yet: an office expecting to move, a hotel weighing up whether the machine belongs behind the counter or in the breakfast room, a site planning a refit that wants the option to plumb in later.

Getting it into position

  • On the tank: a stable surface, a suitable power supply, and someone taking responsibility for topping up
  • Plumbed: a connection planned before the machine arrives, since fitting water to an awkward corner is the usual cause of delay

Either way, allow clearance above so the hopper can be filled without dragging the unit forward, room to reach the grounds drawer, and space for a milk fridge nearby.

Milk, beans and whose job it is

Because milk specialities and black coffee sit on the same menu, one machine can serve a whole floor without anyone deciding who gets the good coffee. That does mean chilled milk has to live beside the machine and be restocked as reliably as the beans, and the milk path needs its regular clean, which the machine prompts for. In a self-service position, decide early who owns those jobs; an unattended machine with warm milk beside it is a complaint waiting to happen. Nobody needs training to use this machine, which is the point of it, but somebody does need training to look after it:

  • Empty the grounds on a schedule matched to your actual volume rather than a guess
  • Refill the hopper and keep the milk fresh
  • Answer the cleaning prompts, and put the cleaning agent in when asked

Bean choice matters more here than on a manual setup, because the brewing programme is fixed and there is no barista to compensate for a roast that does not suit it. Choosing beans for a bean to cup machine is worth a read before you place a standing order.

Descaling and servicing

Budget for a periodic descale set to your local water hardness and a regular milk system clean, whichever supply route you take. Filtration is not optional on a tank-fed machine either; hard water reaches the boiler exactly as it would through a mains feed. Agreeing a service routine at installation is the simplest way to keep a machine of this output available through its busiest months.

When to choose differently

If the site has a mains feed within easy reach and will genuinely run at volume, the plumbed Giga X3c removes the top-up job altogether and is the simpler long-term answer. If you want a barista making drinks in front of customers, how bean to cup compares with a traditional espresso setup sets out what you gain and what it costs in training. And if demand is modest, a smaller machine will do the job without the commercial specification you would be paying for here.
