Speed matters when there is a queue, and the GIGA X8 Speed is Jura’s answer for sites where drinks need to land fast without dropping quality. Hotels, conference centres, dealership lounges and larger offices are its natural home, and this ex-demonstration machine offers that specification without the wait of a new order. Anywhere a drink has to be in a delegate’s hand before the next session starts, this is the class of machine that copes.
Grinding technology
At the heart of the machine sit two newly developed ceramic disc grinders. Ceramic discs are close to wear-free compared with conventional burrs, which keeps the grind profile stable over thousands of drinks rather than drifting as the edges dull. They also run quietly and generate less heat, so the aromatic oils survive the journey from hopper to brew unit. Each grinder adjusts independently, letting you dial in two different beans, perhaps a house blend and a decaf, and switch between them straight from the menu.
The pattern of demand it is built for
Judge this machine by the shape of your service rather than by a daily total. Sites that suit it share a pattern: long quiet stretches broken by short, heavy bursts when a session ends or a coach party arrives. A trickle of drinks spread evenly through the day does not need this much machine. Where the X8 Speed earns its money is the venue with neither the staff for a barista position nor the patience for a queue.
Why operators choose it
- Two independently adjustable ceramic disc grinders
- Quiet grinding, suited to receptions and open-plan spaces
- Lower grinding temperature to protect bean aromatics
- Faster preparation designed around back-to-back service
- Commercial build intended for sustained daily use
- Twin bean containers so two coffees share one menu
- Ex-demonstration condition, checked by our technicians
Planning the counter
Depth matters here as much as width. Allow clear headroom to open the bean containers, room either side for cups and a bin, and space for a milk fridge if one is going in. Access is the part that gets forgotten: a machine wedged into an alcove is one nobody wants to refill. Confirm the water supply arrangement for this particular unit with us before the counter is built, and treat the electrical side as you would for any commercial appliance rather than a kettle, with someone competent checking the supply at the position you have in mind.
Milk drinks and the fridge
A milk fridge is what opens the drinks list out to cappuccino, latte and flat white alongside the black coffees. Refrigerated fresh milk is what most hospitality guests expect, which is why the fridge belongs within arm’s reach of the machine rather than under a counter across the room. Settle that question before installation, because it changes how much counter you need and where the power goes.
Staff routine and water treatment
Training runs to a single walkthrough: hopper top-ups, emptying the grounds and waste, and running the rinse cycles is the whole handover, which means a new starter can be given the machine on their first shift. Suitable water treatment is not an accessory at this level, it is the difference between a long service life and a scaled brew unit, and it counts for more in hard water areas. Beyond that the burden is modest, being prompted cleaning cycles, a wipe down, and periodic attention from a technician.
Buying it ex-demonstration
Being an ex-demonstration machine, it has seen showroom use and may show minor cosmetic signs of handling; mechanically it has been inspected and prepared for service. That trade, a cosmetically used casing in exchange for commercial specification available now, is the whole argument, and it is set out in more detail in our explainer on what ex-demo and refurbished actually mean. If a spotless finish is part of the brief because the machine will stand in a public reception, look at the new Jura commercial range instead; in a staff area, the marks stop being noticed after the first week.
Where it fits best
- Conference centres and hotels where a session ending fills the lobby at once
- Dealership and showroom lounges offering waiting customers a proper coffee
- Large offices moving off an instant point without adding a barista to the rota
- Buyers who need commercial specification on site now rather than on a lead time
For an operator that means commercial pace with one-touch simplicity, sitting comfortably in either a self-serve or a barista-assisted position. Checked machines move quickly, so it is worth looking through the rest of the ex-demo and refurbished stock at the same time.
