House coffee has to do two things at once: taste right on its own as an espresso and still cut through steamed milk in a 12oz cup. Ciao Italian Coffee Beans are blended and roasted with both in mind, which makes this 10 x 500g case a practical stock item for cafes, restaurants, offices and hospitality venues running a mixed drinks menu.

Roast profile and origin

Beans are drawn from growing regions in Costa Rica, Brazil and Sumatra, a combination that brings sweetness, body and depth into the same cup. The dark roast pushes the blend towards the classic Italian style, producing a thick, silky crema and enough backbone to remain recognisable under milk. Every 500g bag carries a one-way valve, which lets roasting gases escape while keeping oxygen out, so the last bag in the case opens as well as the first.

Case details

  • Ten 500g bags, five kilograms of coffee per case
  • Dark roast built for espresso and milk-based drinks
  • One-way degassing valve on every bag to protect freshness
  • Origins in Costa Rica, Brazil and Sumatra
  • Produces a dense, lasting crema on a well-dialled shot
  • Half-kilo format that suits daily hopper top-ups

Who the half-kilo format suits

The 500g bag is the real advantage for smaller and medium-volume sites. You open only what the day needs instead of leaving a large sack slowly going stale in the store cupboard, which matters more than most operators think: a bean that has been open a fortnight is a different bean from the one that was dialled in. Offices, small cafes, restaurant coffee stations, hotel breakfast counters and any site where the machine is busy at two points in the day and quiet in between all get more out of this format than out of bulk sacks. High-volume sites that empty a hopper before lunch will find larger bags less handling, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

Consistency in the hopper

A house bean that never changes underneath you is worth a surprising amount of time. Grind setting, dose and shot timing stay put, staff stop chasing a moving target, and the drink a regular customer bought last week tastes the same this week. Fill the hopper to roughly a session’s use rather than to the brim, so beans are not sitting in warm air above a machine all day, and top up rather than mixing a new bag into a half-empty stale one.

Storage, rotation and waste

Keep unopened bags somewhere cool and dry, away from strong smells, and rotate the case front to back as new stock arrives so nothing hides at the back of the shelf. Resealing an opened bag properly is the single easiest saving available on a coffee account. Order to a rhythm rather than in a panic, and check how consumable orders reach site when you set the reorder point, so the case lands before the last bag is opened rather than after.

What it means for the machine

A dark, oily roast behaves differently in a grinder from a lighter one, and burrs, chutes and brew groups need cleaning on schedule to stop residue turning rancid and tainting fresh coffee. That is a routine, not a warning, and the cleaning schedule for a bean to cup or espresso setup says how often burrs, chutes and brew groups actually need attention.

When a different bean is the better answer

Choose a decaf alongside this blend if you serve evening trade or a workplace where caffeine is a question. Choose a Fairtrade organic bean where your customers or your procurement policy ask for the certification. Choose a lighter, more characterful roast where filter and single-origin drinks are part of what you sell. And if the coffee is fine but the machine is the limiting factor, the Ciao machine range is the place to start.

Good fit for

  • Cafes and delis running a classic Italian-style house espresso
  • Restaurants and hotel breakfast counters
  • Offices and staff kitchens with a bean to cup machine
  • Sites that prefer opening a fresh bag daily to bulk sacks
  • Operators who want one blend to cover espresso and milk drinks
